Owlbites (Guitar-based Ambient music)

Owlbites live at Vechtclub, Utrecht 2015

Owlbites’ is an experimental guitar ambient/drone project of Thanos Fotiadis. It’s inspired by the work of psychologist Carl Jung and his theory of the “shadow” and David Lynch’s obscure cinematic world and art-installations. ’Owlbites’ started as a healing process against symptoms of depression and it developed as a continuous experiment in sound, a playful creative exploration using a guitar and a tape player in order to create a complex sound environment where every little detail is being brought to light. Each live show is a unique improvisation and an ode to chaos and its flair for dramatic structures.

Thanos recorded 3 albums as ‘Owlbites’: the debut album which was released in 2015 by one of the most uncompromising Greek underground labels “Phase! Records”, the follow-up “Shadow/Enantiodromia” in 2016, a very special meditation album written specially for one of Alan Watts’ meditation practices and the “Live.Bites” album in 2018, which was a live recording in the studio as a tribute to all of the live shows that Thanos performed during those years, many of them in unusual locations with strange reverberations.

Thanos is planning to release a new ‘Owlbites’ album in the coming years including - for the first time ever - his own voice.

Owlbites Live

During the many live performances I did with my ‘Owlbites’ project there are two who are dear to me. My first appearance in my birth city Thessaloniki for two sold-out shows at the ‘Vitruvian Thing’ art-space, in December 2017 (here on the left) and a lonely performance in my home studio as part of my series “Challenging The Virus”, which I then shared with my friends and family (here on the right).
